Literature Text

Now, it is early in the morning. It is far too early for the sun to rise and small drops of rain falls to the ground from the dark grey clouds. In the castle where most of the guards and knights are asleep, a few guards are awake to make sure no one is trying to sneak in or out of the castle; the air is cold and still. In the room of the young princess, Otay, who is only six years of age now. The princess, who is only a little girl, suddenly awakes and looks around frightened. She kicks off her covers and jumps onto the cold hard stone floor of the castle; she runs to the door and throws it open. She steps out of her room and runs down the hall; she soon stops at a fairly large wooden door. She was still frightened by her dream she just awoke from. So, she banged her fists on the wooden door.

The banging echoed in the room and the one who was in that room was none other than the Queen, Tirra. The queen opened her eyes and waved her right hand, which was bandaged all the way to her shoulder, over an unlit candle. The candle suddenly lit itself up. The queen threw the covers off of herself and gently slid out of her bed on to her feet. She walked towards the door and opened it. Otay ran to her, hugging or clinging to her tightly, the child's eyes filled with tears of fear.

"What 'tis the matter Otay?" Tirra said softly as she looked down at Otay who was crying.  Otay looked up at the queen; she looked into the gentle blue eyes of the queen.

"I h-had a really bad dream…" The child sniffled wiping the tears away from her wild green eyes. The child looked at the shadows in the room, dancing around from the flame flickering on the candle as if they were teasing her.

"'Tis only a dream." The queen told the child as she petted her. The sound of rain disappeared and a new light peeked through the grey clouds. The sun had finally risen, ending this long night. "Why don't you get dressed Otay?"

The child nodded, let go of the queen and ran out of the room. The Queen, Tirra sighed and got dressed as well. The queen usually dressed light with a summer dress and such. Today she wore a light blue dress and a leather belt. She soon placed a crown on top of her yellow hair. The crown was made of gold. In front of the crown has two dragons looking away with their right talons interlocked, their right wings are opened and are crossed over each other. The dragons seem to be fighting for the emerald that is in between their talons and wings and both are holding in their mouths a ruby.

The queen walks out of her room and enters the great hall. She sat down at the far back table, in the large chair in the middle. One of the chefs placed her breakfast in front of her, which was just some soup. She looked at the chef.

"Thank you." She said to the chef. The chef nodded and walked away.  Some time passed as she finished her breakfast. She soon heard clattering in the kitchen. She looked at the direction of the noise to see a cockatrice chasing her pet, the Irish wolfhound out of the kitchen. She laughed softly to herself as she got up and walked out of the great hall.

Tirra walked out of the main entrance of the castle, turned to the right and walked to the training fields. It has been six years since the treaty was signed.  Tirra wanted to see how the guards and knights were, and a lot of them are werewolves, vampires and other mythical creatures.  Queen Tirra looked around the training field to see a lot of the knights and guards training. One knight is playing a violin as she was dogging attacks from another knight with a long wooden sword. Tirra smiled for a minute then she looked to the corner of the field to see Otay hitting a sack filled with hay with a wooden sword. She was about to walk towards Otay, but a voice interrupted her.

"Queen Tirra! Queen Tirra!" The voice shouted, the sound of hooves hitting the ground followed. Tirra turned around to see a female centaur and next to the centaur was a younger centaur.

"Who are you?" The queen said, her voice was stern. The female centaur looked at the Queen with her tired brown eyes; her black hair was long and flowed down her back.

"I am Seniel and this is my son, Tennor." The female centaur said softly as she motioned to her son. Her son bowed his head, his hair was black as well, but it was shorter than his mother's hair. "I am the new leader of the centaur tribe that lives in the forest near your castle... But that 'tis not why I came here. I came here because there seems to be a problem with your friend Quma and the werewolf pack that is near her hut."

"I see. Thank you very much for telling me. I will go there, along with a few of my knights and see what the problem is." The queen said again in a stern voice. She turned around and looked at the knights training.

"I am willing to help you as well." Seniel added.

"Then I will let you help me. Whether you want to or not, that 'tis your decision." The queen said walking to one of the knights. Seniel followed her as Tennor slowly walked towards Otay.
